Support

Through partnerships and grants, we assist organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families. Our commitment reflects the Masonic values of compassion, integrity, and service, fostering a brighter future for Ontario's communities.

Prostate Cancer Research

The Masonic Foundation of Ontario supports research into prostate cancer through three university and hospital research centres: Western University through the London Health Sciences Foundation, McMaster University through St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation and Queen’s University with the Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

Through its supporters, the Foundation has raised over a million dollars and has used more than half of that number to fund yearly research into a wide range of issues that affect those who face prostate cancer.

Research focuses on the ability to “light up” the smallest of cancer cells through dyes/tracers which are injected into the body and go right to the cancer. This enables clinicians to determine if cancer is present and if cancer is spreading. Seeing the cancer, even the smallest or well-hidden cancers, can now be detected and treated.

Research is progressing on tracers that can see and treat the cancer at the same time – “Theranostics” – a radiopharmaceutical that can see and treat simultaneously, which would be a major step forward as it cuts down on the time between detection and treatment.

One research team is currently developing a new drug for prostate cancer treatment targeted towards the late-stages of the disease – when the cancer is often at its hardest to treat.

This exciting research has been supported for many years by the MFO and we look forward to supporting these dedicated researchers for many years to come.

Ontario Community Colleges

Over the past decade, the Foundation has funded most of Ontario Community Colleges which allows them to provide bursaries for students of a wide variety of programs. Over the past decade, the Foundation has provided over $1,000,000 which funds more than $30,000 per year to students studying at the schools.

This has allowed many of our students to continue with their studies and eventually use their skills to the benefit of our citizens at large.

Major Funding Initiatives

The Foundation has had a tradition of partnering with organizations that need funding to support their initiatives inside the province. This takes the form of three-year commitments of $150,000 that allows those institutions the time and resources necessary to develop and provide benefits to their users.

At this time, the Foundation is involved in supporting the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury and the Perley Health Foundation in Ottawa, both organizations that meet our stated goals.

Over the years, the Foundation has provided such funding to well over twenty different organizations around the province.

District Projects

The Foundation works closely with Masonic groups around the province to support their own local charitable initiatives. Monies raised by dedicated Masons is enhanced by the Foundation and cheques are presented to local charities on behalf of the local Masons. These cheques go to small and medium sized organizations who use the funds to provide assistance directly to those of their communities in need.

The range of charities supported is broad and focuses on the issues recognized by the Masons of our communities; it cannot be overstated that the dedication of these men and their families serves to provide great support to those of their communities who need funding to perform critical local charitable work.

Youth Groups

Under the broad heading of Youth Groups, the Foundation provides funding for bursaries for the Girl Guides and support for the initiatives of the 4-H Club, DeMolay and Rainbow Girls youth groups. These organizations work to enhance the lives of our young people by providing exciting opportunities for learning, travel and community involvement.

Also funded is the MasoniCh.I.P group that assists families with providing security for their children.
